Why hydrogen?

Hydrogen is an alternative to fossil fuels like coal, diesel and gas for providing energy. It is not an alternative to batteries. It works in combination with batteries. Batteries are highly efficient for providing power over durations of a few hours. Hydrogen, which has 3 times the energy of diesel per kg is more cost effective at providing long duration energy. When burned hydrogen leaves behind pure water instead of carbon dioxide. The problem with hydrogen is that it is very hard to store.

Storing Hydrogen

Hydrogen is hard to store because it is a very light gas. While 1 kg of diesel has a volume of just over one litre, 1 kg of hydrogen gas, at sea level, will occupy 11 cubic metres! Compressing hydrogen and liquifying hydrogen are the traditional approaches, but are costly and dangerous and difficult to store and transport. Hydrilyte™ by contrast is a safe and non-toxic liquid which doesn’t require any compression or cooling and can be stored and transported using existing liquid fuels technology.

What do we do?

The Hydrilyte TM Hydrogen Storage System, provides a convenient and intrinsically safe way to store hydrogen at normal atmospheric temperatures and pressures. We enable easy delivery of hydrogen to a range of end-use markets. For more information about the markets we serve see the Markets page.

What is Hydrilyte™?

In the same way that an electrolyte stores electrical charge in a liquid, Hydrilyte™ stores hydrogen in a liquid. The multi-patented Hydrilyte™ is a liquid suspension of metal particles, which safely bond to the hydrogen.

Hydrilyte™ can be stored at atmospheric temperature and pressure until it is needed. To learn more about the technology visit the Technology Page.
